The Leica 35mm/1.4 Summilux lens is surprisingly small for an f/1.4 lens. It has a lovely way of drawing at wide apertures and is phenomenally sharp stopped down. For many subjects, it can be used as one’s only lens. I use the 1994 ASPH design (shown), which is fantastic except for some focus shift at around f/2.8 and f/4. This is inherent in the design and can be minimized with a bit of practice. The newer 2010 design incorporates a floating element and eliminates most of the focus shift.
