The Leica 50mm f/2.0 Summicron lens is a perfect match for M cameras if one likes the standard framing of a 50mm. I enjoy the 50mm focal length very much, and fine 50mm frame lines easier to see than the 35mm frame lines.
The lens is probably the oldest design in the current Leica lens line. The optical design dates to 1979, although the exterior has had a few updates since then.
The lens has an interesting way of drawing. Subjects in focus tend to be ultra-sharp and detailed. Resolution is excellent at all apertures. At wide apertures, a bit of old-fashioned swirly bokeh is noticeable toward the image corners. The built-in lens hood helps avoid flare, although a slight tendency to flare is part of its classic look. Some photos made with this lens (more to be added):
